Risk of excess sugar cause gastric cancer

Until now the cause of gastric cancer (stomach) are known multifaktorial and conditions allegedly associated with diabetes mellitus and Helicobacter pylori infection, although the relationship is not known with certainty. A later study conducted to assess the more definite effect hyperglycemia and infectious conditions H. pylori on incidence / incidence rate of gastric cancer. The following new research brief published in early June 2009 was:

The study involved 2603 Japanese people aged 40 years and over. Then the population is classified into 4 groups based on blood sugar levels (assessed by HbA1c levels), namely;
• group 1: HbA1c ≤ 4.9%
• group 2: HbA1c 5.0% - 5.9%
• 3 groups: HbA1c 6.0% - 6.9%, and
• 4 groups: HbA1c ≥ 7.0%
After being monitored for 14 years, gastric cancer occurred in 97 people. Then it is known that the risk of gastric cancer were significantly higher 2-fold over the population of people with high HbA1c levels (or levels of high blood sugar). The presence of infection H. pylori also increases the incidence of this cancer, and this is especially true in patients with HbA1c levels above 6.0% compared to the population with HbA1c levels are lower.

Of this research is known that blood sugar levels are high it contribute to the risk of gastric cancer. Why? not known with certainty, and this still needs further research. From this study we learn new things about the importance of controlling blood sugar levels to normal. Besides reducing the risk of diabetes complications, such as stroke, blindness, kidney failure, etc., the normal blood sugar control also helps protect against gastric cancer. Hopefully this information can be useful.
